In this video, watch as Dakota Striplin sings and plays guitar with the voice of an angel, causing one judge to turn her chair and place her hand on her heart, while another judge quickly flips her chair to see what’s going on. The judges are shocked when they realize that Dakota not only sang but played the guitar as well. They inquire about what inspired him to choose that song and artist, to which Dakota responds that Elvis inspired him and that his grandmother used to love attending his shows. Dakota shares that there is a running joke that he could be Elvis’s grandson, which makes the judges laugh when they see the resemblance.
As Dakota shares his story, he reveals that his grandmother used to help with Elvis’s shows in Hawaii and would take Dakota’s dad with her, but not any of her other children. When Elvis passed away, his grandmother was deeply affected, and a few years ago, a DNA test proved that Dakota’s grandfather is not his real grandfather, leading to the speculation that Elvis might be his grandfather.
After Dakota’s story, two judges stand up in the hopes of being selected as his coach. Dakota ultimately selects the judge who turned for him first. The video ends with one more clip of Dakota singing in a knockout round.
While we may not always know our true origins, accepting Jesus as our savior assures us of our unchanging identity in Christ and our place in the family of God.
