Tammy Slaton is celebrating a major milestone in her weight loss journey. The 1000-Lb. Sisters star recently announced that she has lost a total of 500 pounds since she began her quest for better health.
In a TikTok video from August 17th, set to Andra Day’s inspirational song “Rise Up,” Tammy shares a powerful moment. The video shows her alongside six other “weight loss warriors,” with each person’s weight loss highlighted on the screen. Together, these friends have collectively shed 2,078 pounds, and they are seen lifting each other up and holding hands in unison.
Tammy, now 38, captioned the video with heartfelt words: “Truly absolutely amazing ladies, and I’m happy to call y’all all my friends.” She added, “I’m incredibly proud of all of you. You have stunning external features in addition to your inner beauty. Never forget.”
Tammy co-stars with her sister Amy Slaton Halterman on the TLC series 1000-Lb. Sisters. Since the show’s premiere in January 2020, Tammy has been open about her health challenges. After a 14-month stay in a weight loss rehabilitation facility and undergoing bariatric surgery in July 2022, she has continued to document her weight loss journey both on TV and social media. By December 2023, Tammy had lost a total of 440 pounds, bringing her weight down to around 285 pounds.
Tammy has also spoken about how her weight loss has positively impacted her mental health. In a February TikTok video, she reflected on her emotional state before her rehabilitation. “I was just bitter, unhappy, and very suicidal depressed before I went to rehab,” she shared. “I’ve personally noticed a lot of improvement in my demeanor toward others and my family. And simply my demeanor and my apparent happiness. I grin a lot more now.”
Beyond her weight loss, Tammy has celebrated other victories in her life. She recounted some of these in a TikTok video, saying, “I did ride some rides at Disney World. And I took a hot air balloon ride.” She added, “I used to detest life, but now I value it. I detested every aspect of existence.”
In April, Tammy shared a picture of herself in the pool with her friend, psychic medium Haley Michelle. Her openness and honesty in sharing her journey have touched many of her fans. One admirer commented, “Holy wow! It’s quite the transformation! Seeing how far you have come makes me very happy. I think I shed a few tears.”
Since 2020, Tammy’s journey on 1000-Lb. Sisters has been closely followed by viewers on TLC. Her transformation, both physically and mentally, has been remarkable. By December 2023, she had lost 440 pounds and weighed approximately 285 pounds.
Throughout the summer, Tammy continued to share glimpses of her life with her fans. In June, she posted a photo on Instagram, posing in a floral dress. That same month, she shared a snapshot with her brother Chris Combs and YouTuber Chelcie Lynn.
However, the summer also brought a heartbreaking moment for Tammy. On July 1, she mourned the loss of her husband, Caleb Willingham, posting nostalgic pictures on Instagram with the caption, “Rip, sweet angel, you will forever be missed and loved so much. Caleb, I appreciate you showing me true love and happiness.”
Despite the challenges, Tammy has remained positive and active on social media. On August 25, she shared a reflective selfie taken in her bathroom, and on October 18, she posted a joyful selfie wearing jeans. In January 2024, she shared a video on TikTok, showcasing a tie-dyed outfit.
Her progress has not gone unnoticed by those around her. In April 2024, Dr. Eric Smith, her weight loss surgeon, responded to her selfie posts with words of encouragement: “You are killing it!”
In her most recent updates, Tammy shared a photo with her cat, Chocolate, showing that she continues to embrace life with a better attitude and a stronger sense of self.
