The world is full of talented musicians and actors, but being gifted in both is truly exceptional. Some people are lucky enough to have both abilities, and it’s hard not to feel a bit envious. Meet Doña Oxford, a truly extraordinary talent.
A video of Doña performing at the Riverfront Blues Festival in 2013 has garnered 12.8 million views on YouTube. In this video, she delivers one of the most enjoyable musical styles—boogie-woogie. At the beginning of the video, Doña asks the crowd if she can play for them, and they respond with enthusiastic cheers.
Doña then throws down the gauntlet, announcing that she’s going to give them a lesson in boogie-woogie. And she doesn’t disappoint. Her keyboard skills are impressive, but it’s her attitude and flair that really steal the show. She moves to the beat, nods her head, and sways her hips, adding a vibrant energy to the performance. Watching her is pure delight.
As the song progresses, Doña riffs along with the audience, even joking that she’ll play boogie-woogie with one hand tied behind her back. At one point, she nails a section so perfectly that she jokes the bass player can go home, which he playfully pretends to do with a laugh. Then, Doña brings the “woogie” back into the mix, using both hands to create a blur of motion as the pace intensifies.
When she finally concludes her performance, the crowd gives her a well-deserved, thunderous round of applause.
