Darian Depreta’s daughter was taken to the hospital due to the presence of a black spot on the roof of her mouth. The medical professionals originally misinterpreted it as a birthmark, but the father disagreed, believing it couldn’t be just that.
After encountering several unsuccessful attempts to schedule another appointment, the concerned couple ultimately managed to arrange a visit to the doctor to have their daughter examined thoroughly.
The mother narrated her experience on Facebook, saying, “I noticed a blemish on Bella’s mouth while playing with her today. I tried to clean it to see if it would disappear, but it didn’t. Then, I contacted everyone and scheduled a 30-minute appointment with the doctor.”
The mother went on to describe the day when she first discovered the stain in her daughter’s mouth, saying, “We typically like to play games together, which usually involve a lot of laughter and singing. When Bella started to sing her favorite song, I realized that something was amiss. Initially, I believed she hadn’t finished the candy I had just given her, but then I realized it was something else and decided to see a doctor.”
When the nurse arrived at the doctor’s office, she attempted to clean the black spot with an ENT control stick. However, it didn’t come off, so the doctor asked for the girl’s input.
Initially, they informed the mother that it was a sign of impending birth, but she didn’t believe them. The mother claims that she constantly cleans her daughter’s mouth and that the blemish didn’t appear until later.
“I told both the nurse and the doctor that it couldn’t be a birthmark because I would have noticed it before. No, that mark wasn’t there before; it just appeared, and I’m terrified it could be something terrible,” the mother stated. Dissatisfied with the simple explanation of a birthmark, she requested a second opinion.
However, obtaining another appointment was not straightforward because the doctor refused. “I was promised that two experts would examine my daughter. After she insisted that it wasn’t a birthmark, the doctors contacted her once more. ‘I explained that the mark is white around the edges and that my child tries to scratch it with her fingers inside her mouth,’ the mother added.
Happy Ending
When the doctors discovered what the dark stain was, the entire hospital laughed uncontrollably. The couple was right; the spot in their daughter’s mouth was not a birthmark. It was, in fact, a piece of cardboard from a box the little girl had chewed with her teeth.
The parents were thrilled with the news and burst out laughing. They also apologized to the doctor for wasting their time.
