Corinne Foxx, the daughter of Jamie Foxx and a 28-year-old woman, has recently shared her journey with endometriosis. Foxx had been experiencing extreme pain, chronic exhaustion, bladder discomfort, and nausea during her menstrual cycle for years, assuming these symptoms were normal. It was only when her roommate found her curled up in agony on the bathroom floor that Foxx realized something was wrong.
Foxx sought medical attention from six different doctors, all of whom dismissed her symptoms and suggested hormone abnormalities or bladder cancer. Despite the medical gaslighting, Foxx persisted in advocating for herself and finally found a specialist who diagnosed her with stage 4 endometriosis.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health, endometriosis affects over 11% of women between the ages of 15 and 44. Foxx had a successful operation with Dr. Iris Orbuch in October 2018 and has been free of unpleasant symptoms since.
To raise awareness about the disease and the lack of support and knowledge surrounding women’s reproductive health, Foxx created a documentary. She joins a long list of celebrities, such as Bindi Irwin, Lena Dunham, Halsey, Julianne Hough, Amy Schumer, and Padma Lakshmi, who have spoken openly about their experiences with endometriosis.
Foxx’s experience highlights the importance of advocating for oneself and trusting one’s instincts, particularly in women’s health. She hopes that by sharing her story, other women will be encouraged to seek medical attention if they experience abnormal symptoms during their menstrual cycle.
