Are you tired of coming home from work or vacation only to find your digital clock displaying the wrong time? You may assume that there wasn’t a power outage, but you can’t determine how long the electricity was out for. This could result in defrosted food and the growth of harmful bacteria, like salmonella.
However, today we have a trick that will help you determine if, and for how long, your freezer was without electricity. By using this trick, you’ll be able to find out if your food has gone bad from being defrosted for too long.
For this you need 3 simple things:
- a cup
- coin
- water
First, pour water into a bowl and place it in the freezer to frost. Once there’s only ice left in the cup, place a coin on top and return it to the freezer.
When you return home, check the position of the coin before consuming any food from the freezer. If the coin is still at the top, then you’re good to go. But if the coin has sunk to the bottom of the cup, it means that the electricity was out for an extended period, and the water completely dissolved, causing the coin to sink. In this case, it would be wise not to consume any of the food from the freezer.
This is an excellent and easy-to-use trick, especially when going on long trips. Share this cool trick with your friends and family on Facebook, so they can also benefit from it.
