Alex entered foster care at the age of 3 and spent 11 years living with 15 different families before finding his forever home at the age of 13.
In October 2017, Jenny and Stephen Madkour saw Alex on Jeff Gianola’s “Wednesday’s Child” episode and were moved by his troubled past and his struggle to find a permanent family.
Despite having difficulty trusting adults due to his many moves while in foster care, Alex immediately felt comfortable with Jenny and Stephen when they met. The Madkour family was introduced to Alex by Boys and Girls Aid and they hit it off right away.
The couple invited Alex to move in before Christmas and formally adopted him in 2018.
Alex’s story highlights the shortage of foster homes in Portland, Oregon, where he, Jenny, and Stephen now reside. In 2018, there were 800 kids in foster care and 200 kids in the state waiting to be adopted.
Jenny and Stephen learned about Alex from his appearance on television and were immediately drawn to him. They had been searching for a long time for an older child to adopt, and Alex proved to be the perfect match.
Alex’s life has transformed since joining the Madkour family, and he is now the happiest he has ever been. He is grateful for his forever home and is excited about his future.
