Melissa McCarthy is a highly talented actor who has become a household name in Hollywood.
Her weight has been a topic of discussion among many people, but it is not the most interesting thing about her. McCarthy has produced, written, and starred in several Hollywood blockbusters, showcasing her amazing comic talent and versatility as an actress.
McCarthy is married to Ben Falcone, who is also a passionate actor. The couple has been married since 2005, and they are one of Hollywood’s cutest and funniest couples. Falcone frequently expresses his love and respect for McCarthy, highlighting her beauty and talent. In 2021, Falcone posted a photo of the two on his Instagram with the caption, “I’m such a lucky fella to be married to someone so smart, kind, beautiful and crazy funny. Happy birthday Mooch, love you!”
In addition to producing films like Tammy (2014), The Boss (2016), Happytime Murders (2018), and Life of the Party through their production business On the Day Productions, the couple both played characters in Bridesmaids (2011). The couple most recently appeared in Falcone’s post-apocalyptic comedy God’s Favorite Idiot (2022), a Netflix series.
McCarthy, who ranked fourth on Forbes’ list of the highest-paid actresses in 2023, is well-known for her work on the TV series Mike and Molly and The Gilmore Girls (2000–2007). She has appeared in films such as The Heat (2013), The Spy (2015), Ghostbusters (2016), and Can You Ever Forgive Me? for which she was nominated for an Oscar. In this movie, McCarthy played a struggling writer who forges letters from deceased authors. In 2023, McCarthy is showcasing her musical chops as Ursula, the villainous sea witch in Disney’s live-action film The Little Mermaid.
McCarthy has received numerous honors throughout her career. In 2016, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and in 2020, The New York Times ranked her as the 22nd greatest actor of the twenty-first century. Despite being a high-profile actress, McCarthy remains grounded and is always up for a good laugh. Her unconventional humor, combined with Falcone’s, makes their relationship charming.
The duo showed up to the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in 2019 sporting matching Adidas tracksuits and sneakers, a decision that received mixed feedback. McCarthy joked about her fashion choices, saying, “It’s not (less glamorous) to me guys, I’ve doubled my diamonds–I feel great.”
One thing people might not know is that McCarthy is the cousin of Jenny McCarthy, an actress, model, and TV personality. In 2013, Jenny lashed out in defense of McCarthy after film critic Rex Reed slammed her cousin in a review of Identity Thief, referring to her as a “tractor-sized Melissa McCarthy” and a “gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.” Jenny told E! News, “That’s obnoxious in itself. For anyone to attack like that, it’s just wrong and hurtful, and it doesn’t do anyone any good…” She added, “She’s very very talented and people know that, so…He can go to hell.”
Rated high on the scale for her acting skills, McCarthy graciously dismisses judgments about her ever-changing weight.
In 2016, McCarthy spoke with Refinery29 about her dropping some weight for her role in The Boss, a script she wrote with Falcone, who also directs.
“I have, but I’ll be back again. I’ll be up, I’ll be down, probably for the rest of my life. The thing is, if that is the most interesting thing about me, I need to go have a lavender farm in Minnesota and give this up.”
She continued, “There has to be something more. There are so many more intriguing things about women than their butt or their this or their that. It can’t be the first question every time, or a question at all…Can you imagine them asking some of these guys I work with, ‘How do you keep your butt looking so good?’”
And about stereotypes, she said, “I want to get rid of constantly categorizing. Lists give somebody a way to shove and tear down women. Those women that are always shown, that we’re all supposed to be like, is like .000009% of human beings. That’s crazy.”
Melissa McCarthy, a renowned Hollywood actress, launched Melissa McCarthy Seven7 in order to share her own impeccable fashion sense with others. This decision was a result of her personal struggle with finding appropriate clothing for her body type. Although there are reports that McCarthy has stopped producing her line, which catered to sizes ranging from four to 28, her distinctive looks can still be purchased through online retailers that specialize in pre-owned goods.
Despite facing some negative comments, McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, continues to express his deep affection for her in heartwarming ways. In fact, he has been known to make sweet remarks about McCarthy, who is also the mother of their two children. One example of this is when he posted a photo on Instagram and included a caption that read, “I told her, ‘I love you every day.’ But today, I really do love you,” and it was a genuine expression of his feelings.
In interviews, McCarthy has mentioned that her weight tends to fluctuate. However, she strongly believes that this should not be the “most interesting” aspect of her or any other woman. According to McCarthy, there are countless other fascinating qualities that women possess, which deserve recognition beyond just physical appearance.
I couldn’t agree more with McCarthy’s sentiment. It is time that society stops reducing women to mere physical attributes and starts recognizing the complexity and depth that we all possess. Women are so much more than their body shape or size, and it is important to embrace and celebrate all aspects of ourselves. Let us follow McCarthy’s lead in appreciating our unique qualities and not let our physical appearance define us.
