The Iconic Singer’s Passing
The world-renowned singer, Tina Turner, passed away at the age of 83 following a prolonged illness, as confirmed by her representative.
Turner’s Fondness for Mick Jagger
The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner, who passed away recently, had disclosed her affection for a fellow celebrity in an interview a month before her death. She admitted to having a long-standing admiration for Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones.
“I always had a crush on Mick Jagger,” Turner told The Guardian. “I loved when we toured with the Rolling Stones.”
Turner and Jagger’s Musical Collaborations
Turner and Jagger, 79, shared a rich history of musical collaborations, from performing on each other’s tours to sharing the stage at the Live Aid Festival in Philadelphia. It was at this festival that Jagger playfully removed Turner’s skirt while they were performing onstage.
Turner’s Autobiographical Account of the Live Aid Incident
In her 2018 autobiography, “Tina Turner: My Love Story”, the “Proud Mary” singer reminisced about the Live Aid incident. She wrote about how she and Jagger couldn’t simply stand and sing; they had to engage the audience with their performance.
“‘Does that skirt come off?’ he asked slyly. ‘What?’ was my startled reply… ‘I’m going to take your skirt off’. I asked him why, but it was too late to talk it through, Mick had already made his mind up to do it,” Turner wrote. “It wasn’t as if some random guy pulled off my skirt. It was like a boy I knew did it. A very old boy.”
Jagger’s Tribute to Turner
Following the confirmation of Turner’s death, Jagger expressed his sorrow on social media, paying homage to his late friend.
“I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner,” The Rolling Stones frontman posted. “She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.”
